Does any of this sound familiar?
If you have ever suffered from any of these symptoms
whilst working at a computer, there is a strong possibility
that you are suffering from Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS).
One major cause of these symptoms is decreased blinking
while using a computer. This decreased blinking occurs as a
result of increased concentration whilst using computers.
This focus on tasks (even “staring”) means that we
unknowingly reduce our blink rate causing dry, tired and
therefore sore eyes.
Who does CVS affect?
Computer Vision Syndrome is estimated to affect up to 90%
of individuals who use a computer for more than three hours
a day. It is a “silent” problem, as many people do not
address these work related symptoms, instead believing it is
a result of tiredness or other factors. However whilst CVS
has an obvious impact on visual comfort, it also has a
significant impact on productivity. Studies in America found
that due to this discomfort at a monitor, employees showed a
reduction in efficiency of nearly 20% in accomplishing
standard tasks. (That’s one day a week!)
Preventing symptoms of CVS - Sore, tired and dry eyes.
Once you have CVS there are many effective treatments but
prevention will always be better than cure. Keeping the eye
naturally lubricated is the obvious way to prevent CVS and
the best method is to restore your natural blink rate to
that which nature intended.
Blinknow is a unique, simple, patented device with no
on-going cost. The webcam sized device activates the users’
subliminal blink reflex. It fits on top of or beside your
computer screen and within the users’ peripheral vision. The
device then prompts users to blink at a healthy rate thus
overriding the blink suppression that can occur during,
prolonged computer work. It doesn’t hurt, there is no
medication involved after an hour or two you simply forget
it is even there but it carries on helping to prevent the
symptoms of CVS.
This is no miracle cure - simply the application of a
little common sense. Making sure your monitor is correctly
set up, at the right distance and height will also help.
Ensuring that your glasses (if you need them) are right for
working at a computer will also aid the Blinknow device to
reduce sore eyes, tired eyes and dry eyes. This in turn will
help reduce fatigue, double vision and headaches - now that
can never be a bad thing! |
